 The TCO of Business Intelligence

For the design of BIOX reducing the TCO of BI was one of the central ideas. We finally achieved a very low TCO by the following concepts:

  •  Intuitive User Interface, which enables users to use the application after minimal teaching effort
  • Straight-forward technical implementation, which allows for flexibility and reliability. The Sources of Data are connected to directly, without any necessary mappings or additional servers!
  • Simple installation, minimal maintenance required
  • Automatic installation mechanism for updates and addional add-ins

 Showcase: Presentation Excursus

Imagine the following scenario:

You are presenting the current quarter’s financial key figures to the management. On one slide, you show the sales volume by country. Seeing these figures, one attendee of the meeting starts to wonder, why sales in Germany have been lower than in Denmark. He would like to have a deeper look into this at once.

Having created the presentation with the help of BIOX, you cannot only refresh the data in the slide show, but also you can he start an Excursus on the data, to dive into the data. You open the Data Transformation Viewer, filter for Germany and choose Material to appear on the view. The BIOX add-in calls the Source of Data to retrieve this information, and refreshes the Data Transformation Viewer as well as the chart in the presentation.

 Showcase: Offline Mode

Imagine the following scenario:

Tomorrow, you will be meeting with a representative of an important supplier. You are preparing your presentation for the meeting and, using the BIOX add-in, you include some valuable visualizations of your BI data.
Not only can you create the presentation very fast with the use of BIOX. You will also make use of the option to take the presentation “offline”, because there won't be the possibility to connect to the inhouse BI systems from the meeting location. The Offline Mode persists the BI data in her presentation, so the data can be analyzed flexibly in case unexpected questions arise during the meeting.

 Showcase: Combine Sources of Data

Imagine the following scenario:

In your company, you use different ERP systems, e.g. SAP R/3 and BAAN. The requirement is to show a visualization in a briefing document, showing spend data from both systems. It is too expensive to setup a project, consolidating the data in SAP BW.

With IBS BIOX, a reporting user can create a report showing both BAAN and R/3 data by creating two different Sources of Data, one being a SAP BW query, the other one being a flatfile or a direct database connection to BAAN. Via the Combined Cube, you can easily map the fields from both sources, in order to visualize these data in one chart.
